The Arizona Coyotes and forward Jack McBain have agreed to a two-year contract, as announced on Sunday. The deal carries an annual average value of $1.6 million, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
Prior to the agreement, McBain’s arbitration hearing was scheduled for Sunday. His camp had filed for a salary of $2.25 million for the upcoming season, while the Coyotes countered with a two-year deal worth $2.4 million, as per Friedman.
During his rookie season with the Coyotes, the 23-year-old forward showcased his skills, notching 12 goals and 26 points in 82 games.
Coyotes’ General Manager Bill Armstrong expressed his satisfaction with the signing, praising McBain’s physicality and offensive contributions. He stated, “We are very pleased to sign Jack to a new contract and look forward to having him back on our roster this season.”
Before joining the professional ranks, McBain spent four seasons playing for Boston College. The Coyotes acquired his signing rights from the Minnesota Wild in March 2022 for a 2022 second-round pick.
McBain, a native of Toronto, represented Canada at the 2022 Olympics, where he tallied a goal and two points in five games. Additionally, he recorded two goals and four points during the World Championships in May, helping Canada secure a gold medal.
The Coyotes had approximately $8.7 million of cap space before this signing, according to CapFriendly. It’s worth noting that the cap space calculation does not include potential cap hits for players like Shea Weber, Jakub Voracek, or Bryan Little, who could be placed on long-term injured reserve.
